Macau is basically a Portugese Hong Kong, albeit on a smalled scale. There are no sky scrapers, and none of the big city glitz and glamor of its more famous counterpart, but it's worth a visit for sure. It's about an hour away from Hong Kong by high speed ferry, and is mostly known for its casinos. It was, for the better part of 450 years, a Portugese colony, but it was handed over to China right around the time that Great Britain turned over Hong Kong. It has many similarities to Hong Kong, but it also has a distinct flavor all its own as well. It makes a perfect day trip from Hong Kong, and features some great cuisine (a mixture of Chinese and Portugese), and of course, port wine, a personal favorite...
